The Milky Way forms the abdomen of the dolphin and is called Akasaganga which means "The Ganges River of the Sky"
While the Xhosas believe that the Milky Way are the bristles of an angry dog, the most popular African myth attributes their existence to a strong-willed African girl. This girl became so angry when her mother refused to give her any more delicious roasted root that she grabbed the roots that were roasting on a nearby fire and threw their ashes into the sky. The red and white ashes became the red and white stars that make up the Milky Way.
